I can think of a lot of good reasons to leave church. Sometimes the only thing keeping me going is my need for community. I can’t be a Christian all on my own. I need my community with all it’s warts and blemishes. But I despair sometimes of really feeling at home in my church. My small prayer group, yes. But the church as a whole? So how can I become a force for positive change when all I encounter is negativity?

As trite, or perhaps well-worn as it may sounds, Chuck, be the change you wish to see in the church. In other words, your spirit may be EXACTLY what is needed there. It’s possible that others love seeing you come to church because you bring a positivity they don’t have otherwise. You’re not obliged to “save” them, but understand that positivity may be your spiritual gift. On the other hand, if you’re bringing a negative spirit, too, be aware of that.
